Wait for it... -- On the virtue of patience


Building confidence takes patience. -- In that it takes years.

Some people attract confidence naturally. But, unfairly as the world works, not everyone does.

If life's truly got you down, turning it around is one of the bigger projects you’ll ever undergo. And even with a fairly normal life, rising above the average and becoming extraordinarily successful will also take years.

Trust me.

This is one of the major reasons that people get stuck in unsatisfying lives: We often end up settling for certain conditions because we think they’re inevitable. This can be because we’ve endured them for a certain period, and/or because we find ourselves coming back to them.

It’s all due to a lack of one little term, which means a world of difference between those who succeed and those who don’t…:

PATIENCE.

When someone settles for less, there’s necessarily a bi-sensation of giving up. And even though this might feel nice, it only does so because it’s comfortable. And, more often than not, comfort is what keeps us from getting where we want to be.

How many times have you planned to get up early only to snooze within the first millisecond of the alarm clock?

How many times have you wanted to lose weight only to keep gorging on junk food several times a week?

I could go on, but you get the point.

We settle for things by allowing them to happen. And by not being sufficiently patient we give way for allowing something to happen which we might end up settling for, even though initially we wouldn’t necessarily want to.

This is especially true for people of low confidence. When we’re not confident, we think unrealistically less of our abilities, therefore often not putting in the necessary work to succeed in whatever our pursuit, thereby getting used to failing.

And, in turn, we end up thinking of not only ourselves, but of everything we do, as a failure. — Which, in a classic example of downward spiralling, affects our patience negatively.

However, if one has enough patience to succeed, guess how that affects our confidence — and our patience? Yes, exactly.

Patience is crucial. Not only to succeed in any endeavours, but to a basic, good life. Think about it: If you want to achieve ANYTHING worthwhile, how are you gonna do it if you deem failure in the midst of the process only because you get impatient??

I don’t want this for you. I don’t want any of you to settle for less than you truly want. Allow yourself to slowly build the patience of a saint, and you will be able to reap whatever tremendous benefits you want.

ACTION ITEM:

For 24 hours, turn off your phone, don’t go online, and don’t watch any TV or listen to any radio.

Why? Because we’ve gotten so used to these everyday distractions that our attention span, and, hence, our patience, suffers drastically. The longer you’re able to abstain from these kinds of instant gratification-kinda stimuli, the better your patience will be.

6 Effective Ways to be relieved from Stress


Stress is an awful experience that not so many people want to experience, especially if you are at work, at home taking care of your baby or in your bedroom making some projects while preparing for an upcoming major exam. While stress is inevitable, the good news is it is completely manageable.

There are different ways you can do to combat stress. Even if you consider yourself as the busiest person in your workplace, school, or home, it is still possible to come out feeling relaxed and focused despite of the grind around you.

Meditation

Meditation can help you be relieved from stress by targeting your mind. Whether you believe it or not, your mind and everything that’s inside of it (whatever it is), can bring about stress to your life. When unresolved for a long time, it can affect all other areas such as your body, your emotions, and even your social life.

Most commonly people experience mental stress and one of the ways to combat this is through meditation. Meditation works by easing the anxiety on your mind. It can be done for just a few minutes daily and you can do it anytime during the day.

Relaxation techniques

If you are prone to getting stressed easily, what better way to combat this than by doing various relaxation techniques?
Some of the relaxation techniques you can learn and apply are yoga, deep breathing exercise, and meditation rhythmic exercise.

By doing these techniques, you allow the body to elicit its own natural relaxation response. This will lead to a more peaceful and calm feeling. You would be able to finish the day with a better attitude, and you will surely love that!

Have someone to talk to

Stress can get into your nerves easily and when that happens, it will start to affect your performances daily. Don’t let it get the best of you. Begin by disclosing how you feel to someone you can trust. That person could be your best friend, a relative, or a professional counselor.

It actually helps a lot if you make it a habit to share your thoughts and feelings to someone rather than keeping all inside until they accumulate and bring about negative effects to your health and daily activities.

Have a body massage

Body massage is one of the proven ways to get relief from stress. Recommended by doctors and other health professionals, body massage ease the anxiety in your mind and relaxes the muscles in your body.

It gives you a calm and relaxing feeling as the masseur’s hands glide swiftly through your back, head, extremities, and thighs. Professional masseurs use various massaging techniques for various conditions.

At the end of the day, when you are feeling so stressed out from work, school, home, or some activities that you did during the day, consider getting yourself a good body massage and you’ll surely come out feeling rejuvenated.

Go for an adventure

From time to time, it pays a lot if you take a break from what you are doing. Especially if it has been causing you a lot of stress lately, one of the things you can do to be relieved from it is by going for an adventure.

The most common form is by taking a trip either alone or with friends and loved ones. Renew your mind by breaking the daily grind and discover new things at a different pace. As you enjoy the adventure, you get to have more peace of mind and have more time to think about other things.

Aside from that, going for an adventure is one way to treat oneself after days of toiling hard for work. It is actually getting more personal space that one would have not possibly experience if done otherwise.

Manage your time well

While going for an adventure will give you lots of benefits, not everyone will have the luxury of time to always do it.
If that was the case, you can still be relieved from stress by managing your time well every single day. This means you allocate your time wisely and effectively. Have time to do your tasks while setting aside ample time for rest and relaxation.

Avoid the MaƱana Habit so that you can always accomplish tasks on time. Don’t spread yourself too thin.
Many health professionals would agree that stress can be the root cause of all major health problems. Don’t let that ever happen to you. Manage stress well while you still can.

3 Rules for Building Wealth That Have Been Around Since the 1800s


When it comes to wealth building, there is still a lot we can learn from old school
financial principles, even those that have been around for hundreds of years. These kind
of rules are often seen as outdated in today’s digital era but going back to basics can help
you to get a better handle on your finances and get you on the right path to start
building more wealth. Here are 3 rules that have been around for a long time but still
have a place in our contemporary world.

Use a Cash Only System

With no credit and debit cards or online banking, our ancestors had no choice but to use a far less complicated system for managing their finances and it’s one that can still lend itself to modern day budgeting too.

You’re probably already familiar with the "envelope system", which is a popular way of
managing the cash only approach. We often think of it as a modern budgeting plan but it’s actually been around for much longer than you might think.

It works like this: you split your spending into key areas (essentials outgoings, food, gas and non essentials such as entertainment, for example) and set aside an envelope for each one. Your weekly or monthly budget is withdrawn in cash and allocated into each envelope. You can spend each mini budget however you want but once the envelopes are
all empty, you don’t take out any more cash until your budget resets. If you’re running low in certain categories, you can either hold off on the purchase or borrow from another category but taking out any more cash is strictly no-no!

It’s based on the idea that the old fashioned pay envelope containing your wages was all
the money you had until you got the next one so you had to budget well if you didn’t
want to run out of cash or forgo things that were important to you.

The ultimate goal of the "envelope system" was to budget smartly so that you not only
had the means to pay essential outgoings such as board and room and enjoy a few luxuries but also to have a little bit left over at the end of the month that you could put aside into savings and build your wealth. For some people, "savings" is actually a category in itself (with its own envelope) and a certain amount of the budget is allocated to savings, with anything left over also going there. To really make sure you don’t spend
what you’ve allocated for savings, there is always the option to have it deposited directly into a savings account each month after payday. That way, any temptation to reallocate it to another envelope is gone!

It’s Not All About Income

These days, the focus is all on how much money you make. After all, the more you earn, the more you save, right? Not always!

You could be earning a huge amount of money but if your spending is also significant and you don’t save much of it, it’s not going to help you to build much wealth. But if you earn less and save most of it, you’re actually in a better position than someone who spends a bigger income.

The Holy Grail is of course to earn well and save a good proportion of it. But if you’re starting off smaller, changing your mindset and adopting an old school way of thinking about your finances can help you to keep hold of more of your income and grow your wealth.

Being More Self Sufficient

Our ancestors often didn’t have a lot of choice but to be fairly self-sufficient and either make their own items or make do with what they already had. Darning socks and sewing patches to repair worn clothes was par for the course and still in evidence in our grandparents’ generation. Even when clothes are about to fall apart, the thriftiness didn’t end there - they were generally cut up and used as cleaning rags instead!

Being more self sufficient is another trick that we can borrow from the past. These days, it might be more convenient to buy foods from the grocery store, eat out, order takeaways and replace things when they have seen better days but it’s usually more expensive too.

If you’re in a position to grow your own vegetables, cook homemade meals regularly,
make your own bread and repair or mend things when they have seen better days rather than replace them straight away, you can often make your money go a lot further. You might need to learn a few new skills and train yourself to ask "do I really need this?" when you get the urge to buy something non -essential but the savings can be worth the
effort. And that means having a bit extra to use to build more wealth!

There is another upside to the "make do" mentality - you have a lot more appreciation for what you do have if you’re not rushing out to buy brand new items as much.

It’s Time for a Career and Life Checkup



Anytime is a great time to reflect on the past twelve months and acknowledge your personal and professional growth, your accomplishments, and all of your experiences. As you look back and review it‘s also a good idea to celebrate yourself!

Consider the following questions to help you review the past and plan for the future:

• What are your greatest successes and accomplishments? Sometimes a series of minor successes and accomplishments can add up to major strides forward. It’s a good idea to reflect on small wins as well as major accomplishments. Consider maintaining an annual journal to track your successes all year long.

• What would you like to celebrate? Perhaps this year you received a promotion, started a business, grew your family, moved residences, or left a job you didn’t like. Whatever it was, whether you initiated the change or not, you grew from the experience and that’s cause for celebration.

• What risks did you take that you are most proud of? Perhaps you stepped out of the box and did things differently this year than what comes naturally to you. I.e. you are an introvert and you chose to attend networking events to break out and meet new people.

• In which areas of your career or life did you experience breakthroughs? Did you have a shift in perspective? Did you breakthrough a mental, emotional, or physical boundary you previously held? Reflect on your breakthroughs and how you have evolved.

• Who and what are you grateful for? These may be your friends, family, employees, bosses, colleagues, mentors, or others in your life. How did they support you? What role do they play in your life? Who do you wish to acknowledge most?

• What was your biggest learning this year? How did you grow from it? How will you apply this learning moving forward?

• What was your biggest disappointment this year? How did you handle the situation? How did you or how will you move on from it?

• What do you wish to complete before the year ends? What’s left undone that needs to be wrapped up before the year is out. Prioritize what’s left and do what’s most important to you. Delete or delegate what you can. Most importantly, determine what action you will take.

• What is the central theme for you? If this year is a chapter in the book of your life what title would you give it?

Anytime is a great time to stop and take notice of all that is going on in your life and in your career. Reflection is the first step in planning for the future. Take the time to review the past and just how far you’ve come, then determine your goals and create a plan to get you from where you are right now to where you want to be.

Ten Ways To Brighten Up The Winter Drearies




1. Create a new Mid-Winter holiday tradition. Nobody said that the lights and cheer need to come down right after New Year’s Day. Keep them up, enjoy them, and have another party to keep things bright until spring is just around the corner. Mid February would be a great time for this little bash. It could be like a second Thanksgiving to close out the season and welcome in the spring, only featuring healthy light foods in line with everyone’s New Year’s resolutions.

2. Have a spa day at home. Start the day off with some exercise, take a long relaxing bath and treat yourself to a manicure, pedicure and facial. If you are super motivated, some masseuses even make house calls.

3. Throw a luau! Get out the grass skirts, tropical drinks and Hawaiian dƩcor, and invite over your best friends for a tropical party! Ask everyone to dress for the occasion and bring their favorite Hawaiian music so you can dance the drearies away.

4. Meditate. Whether you choose to meditate at home or go to a retreat, meditation can help you to appreciate any day for what it is… dreary or not. Check out my blog at http://www.virtualitystudio.com/blog/ for some free and easy meditation techniques.

5. Do your spring cleaning early. There is something refreshing about cleaning out your closets and organizing your drawers and cabinets. Even though it sounds like a mundane task it can really make you feel better. Figure out what you no longer need and donate it or give it away to make room for new things. Once you are done organizing, clean up your home and finish up your to-do list so you can relax. Plan a special treat for yourself once you are done to motivate you to finish everything quickly.

6. Exercise. The benefits of exercise are obvious and you don’t even need to banish yourself to the gym to do it. Try making exercise fun while enjoying the season at the same time. Go sledding, snow tubing, cross country skiing or just play with your kids in the snow. Even building a snowman or making snow angels can be great exercise all while creating memories with your family that will last a lifetime.

7. Light up the fireplace or light some candles. Fire has a wonderful way of adding cheer and ambiance, especially to a dreary room. Enjoy the warmth and light it adds to this season and just let yourself relax.

8. Have a tropical movie night at home with your family or friends and serve up fresh fruit in place of popcorn. Look through your collection of movies and pick out anything that seems warm and tropical and then have a tropical movie marathon!

9. Plan a vacation. Part of the winter blahs people experience at the beginning of the year isn’t so much from the lack of sun and warmth, but from the lack of things to look forward to. The holidays end abruptly after New Year’s and we’re left with a few months of cold and ice afterwards with nothing to make it special. Give yourself something to look forward to and plan for. Make plans to do something that you love or go somewhere you have never been before.

10. Spend time with those you care about. Get together as often as you can to experience what life was meant to be about… joy, kinship, laughter, fun and love. You don’t even need to plan anything extravagant, just spend time together and create your own joy!

There is that person who always seems to be happy no matter what they are doing and you can’t understand why they are so happy! Do they not have problems in their life? Do they not have stress that makes them tired and cranky? Do they not have annoying family and friends who expect a lot out of them?

The answer is yes they do. They live on the same planet as you after all! But they have a different approach to handling the stuff life brings them which makes them happier than most people.

Here are 7 secrets that happy people know that you need to learn to get on board the happy train of life!

1. The live in the present.

Happy people don’t hold on to the past like other people do. They focus on what is happening around them and enjoy it with a passion that only living in the moment can offer.

Many of us tend to dwell in our negative experiences and this makes us less happy in the short-term and long run.

Living in the present creates an awareness of life going on around you and allows you to enjoy what you are doing right now without baggage memories and expectations from your past. So open your eyes and pay attention to your present activity. Your happiness will thank you!

2. They have strong relationships in their lives.

Whether they are in an intimate relationship, have close friends, or have family that they cherish – they have strong relationships that support them and lift them up.

When you carry the weight of life on your shoulders alone it can be a huge load to walk around with. Friends, family, and spouses can offer a helping hand at taking that load off of you and helping you see issues you have more clearly as well as get over them quicker.

Without a support system you can have a hard time working through issues and you can carry them around with you while more issues pile up on top of them.

If you do not have a spouse and have no close family then go out and make relationships with kindred spirits by joining activities that you are interested in. When you form a strong relationship cherish it for what it does for you.

3. They know who they are and act the part!

They are not trying to be someone they are not and instead they talk, walk, and act exactly how they are without trying to impress anyone else. They don’t quiet down their laugh because it’s too loud and they don’t wear the ‘in clothes’ for the season so others think they are stylish. They just are who they are.

When you are trying to be someone you are not you are essentially telling yourself that you are not good enough. How are you supposed to be happy when you feel you are not good enough? Realize that uniqueness is a sexy quality in people and since everyone is unique you cannot be like everyone else and they should not expect you to be!

4. They do not complain.

They do not complain about every single thing that happens to them and dwell in it for days but they instead just do it or get through it or move on from it.

How to build self confidence - 5 easy tips


To build self confidence you must be true to yourself. No one can give you self confidence. Confidence is an internal gratification, of which only you can award. Here are five ways you can build self confidence by being true and honest with yourself.

It’s Not What You Do it’s How You Do It!

When approaching everything in life, especially when learning how to build self confidence, your outlook will directly affect your outcome. Attack everything you want with the belief that you can do it an there is no way you can fail, then chances are, you have got one trophy with your name engraved in it before the race even starts. This goes with everything in life. Literally push the notion from your mind that failure is even a possibility. Talk to yourself; tell yourself you are awesome and that you can! Nothing anyone else says matters. All that matters is you.

Write a Journal of All Successes

Record every success you have, big or small in a journal and look back on that success when you start to feel your confidence slipping. This journal is your pep talk to help remind yourself how to build self confidence. In this journal include your thoughts about the achievement before and after. Also, record a reward you gave yourself for a job well done and ensure all of your successes have a reward that you give yourself. For example, if the objective is to get a job, you getting the job is not the reward. You need to celebrate completing the objective successfully.

Before You Make Any Decision, Ask Yourself What You Want

The best advice you need, to learn how to build self confidence is you need to control yourself to control your destiny. Do not let anyone pressure you or persuade you to make any decision. Even if you agree, you need to take a step back, take a breath, look at the facts objectively and ask yourself, what do you want?

Do What You Like to Do

You learn how to build self confidence by doing what you like to do. No matter what it is, you need to love it! It doesn't’t matter if anyone else on the planet likes what you like, as long as you like it, you can build objectives and complete them, thus gaining self confidence!

Do What You Like to Do Better Than Anyone Else and Do Not Be Modest!

All that matters is your opinion when learning how to build self confidence and you do what you like to do better than anyone else and when you have successes, tell the world! Life is full of challenges; ups and downs and insecurities. The only guaranteed relationship you have is with yourself, so make that relationship a great one!

Tapping Into Your Reflective Soul


Most likely as a child or young adult there was a time where you felt that the world was yours and that you could accomplish anything you set your mind to achieve. The sky was big and you not only felt you could reach for the stars but you could lasso the moon. In other words, you dreamt big and had no fear of failure or rejection.

There was also likely a time that some one, some thing, some event or some place brought you great joy. It was not just a passing feeling. Whatever "it" was, the feelings associated with "it" are deeply engrained within your soul. Perhaps the feelings associated with "it" are something you recall to help you through tough times, but most likely that person, event, place or thing has been buried and is rarely thought of, if ever.

Whatever "it" was, the reason it resonated with you is likely because it went deep to your inner soul. As you experienced "it" all was right with the world and the more you thought about "it" the more joy it brought you.

Think about it. How many times has the smell of a particular food taken you back to a time in your life associated with good memories? Perhaps the smell of chocolate chip cookies reminded you of your grandma’s recipe. From that one smell not only can you imagine Grandma cooking them, you can also imagine the taste and other sights and sounds associated with that special time with your grandmother. In this case the chocolate chip cookies would be your "it".

Or perhaps just by looking at a photo you are transported back to a time and place of great joy. As you think about this particular memory specific details begin to surface. Memories that you hadn’t thought of for a very long time. When these moments occur you have tapped in to what I call your reflective soul.

Sadly most of us do not tap into our reflective souls nearly as much as we should. More importantly it is not so much as no tapping into those memories, it is is more so that we are not aware of when we do. When something happens that makes us smile and experience happiness we tend to enjoy it at the time, but are quick to let that feeling flee and return to our busy lives.

As a life and mindfulness coach and the founder of Reflective Soul Coaching, I specialize in helping folks to not only tap into earlier feelings of joy and limitless possibilities from long ago, I teach others how to create access points to all things that bring them joy and recreate the feelings associated with them.

If you, like me, love roller coasters you know the exhilaration and excitement of riding a particularly thrilling coaster. In the average three minute ride of a roller coaster you are likely to experience a multitude of feelings. While it is impossible to ride a roller coaster anytime you want to feel any one of those assorted feelings, you can use access points to feel any one or more of those feelings by revisiting your reflective soul.

Of course there are more practical uses for tapping into your reflective soul than reliving a roller coaster ride. Imagine being able to get that job you have been afraid to apply for simply by accessing a point in your reflective soul where you felt completely capable of achieving anything. Simply by accessing that time in your life when you felt invincible you can gather confidence to walk into an interview and increase your chances for getting hired greatly.

Using mindfulness techniques and my extensive coaching skills, I work with clients to discover who they are within their reflective soul and harness those feelings to create a life of their choosing. Anyone can tap into their reflective soul anywhere and most importantly at any time. By learning to tap into and create new access points, I have seen my clients accomplish great things.

The Next Essential Skill


 "Remember, the feeling you get from a good run is far better than the feeling you get from sitting around wishing you were running." Those words from Olympic swimmer and author Sarah Connor capture the essence of a skill those wanting to thrive in the new world of work need.

We live in a world with constant interruptions, interesting internet rabbit holes to explore, and mobile apps to try. There's more information than we can possibility absorb, consider, and read; more activities than we can ever do in a lifetime. Thriving in today's world requires us to self-manage, or we can drown in a sea of busyness, with our time used up and our results minimal.

There is plenty to keep us busy - we know that. But, people who are winning at working know how to self-manage that busyness from the inside-out around their needs, desires, challenges, talents, and aspirations. They understand the choices they make determine the results they get.

Self-managing people display common sense, but also uncommonly practiced behaviors that enable them to be winning at working. Here are 10 examples:

1. They know what they want and work towards achieving it, using the power of incremental progress.

2. They embrace learning, personal growth, and well-being. They compete with themselves, working to improve who they are, what they can do, achieve, or contribute.

3. They're worthy of trust; they're dependable, reliable, and consistently good to their word. If they say they'll do it, they do it, or tell you ahead that they can't.

4. They set boundaries for themselves, making time for what matters to them while understanding that life's ebbs and flows can change their priorities.

8. They're self-motivated and engaged, with what others might call "drive" or "passion." They want to make a difference with their work and life.

9. They're contributors to the common good, not myopically self-focused, with a "big" team mentality; they help and assist others, build strong relationships, and share their knowledge and talents willingly.

10. They use, enjoy, and invest their time thoughtfully. They have a make-it-happen mindset and are highly productive.

Self-managing people who are winning at working do, while others talk of doing. They plan their day, while others let their day plan them. They motivate themselves, while others wait for someone or something to motivate them. They know the results they get are not about the time they have, but the choices they make in how they use it.

5 Practices to Staying Connected while Living Your Life


The question I receive most often from people is, "How do I stay connected and conscious in my everyday life?" My answer is simple and complex – it’s a practice.

1. Practice the pause.

In the hustle and bustle of our fast-paced lives, we don’t catch that we feel disconnected from our essential self and the Divine until we are knee-deep in the mud. When you practice the pause, it allows you to create a moment of stillness to make a choice from a place of love rather than fear.

The "pause" works like this:

As you know that you are moving into fear or stress (and we all know what that feels like in our bodies), take a deep breath and see yourself on a train platform.

A train pulls up, and you enter the car. This car is filled with everything in life that gives you peace, comfort, and love.

Feel your body relax.

Now, from this place of deep peace and love, you can ask yourself what action to take in this situation.

2. Create a sacred practice that works.

Most people don’t stick with a sacred practice, because they are setting up a practice based on someone else’s preferences. A sacred practice is your time to connect with your higher self and the Divine. It is your time to feel deeply loved and supported and to ask questions of the Divine to receive additional insight. It doesn’t have to be a 30-minute meditation, and it doesn’t have to be the same thing every day. It does have to be consistent. Some sacred practices include meditation, journaling, dance, singing, praying, intention setting, and reading.

3. You don’t have to master all the spiritual principles - choose one.

There are a number of laws and spiritual principles of the Universe. You may have heard of a couple: Law of Attraction, Law of Receiving, Law of Increase, Law of Compensation, Law of Non-Resistance, Law of Forgiveness, Principle of Generosity, Principle of Gratitude, Principle of Responsibility… If you try to incorporate all of these laws and principles into everyday living, you can get overwhelmed. Pick one to be your modus operandi (method of operation) and stick with it. Study the principle or law. Be aware when you are not living within the guidelines of that principle or law (without judging yourself) and bring yourself back to the foundations of it.

4. Release your expectations.

Often we have all these expectations for our lives and the lives of others. The only expectation that I suggest, in order to live a spiritual life in everyday moments of your life, is to expect magic, miracles, and goodness.

5. Live your life from the inside out.

We are programed to look outside of ourselves for approval and validation. By looking outside ourselves for why we are loved, acceptance, and approval we will always fail. Take a deep breath, close your eyes, and allow yourself, with each inhalation, to see a prism of light in your heart growing and filling you with the knowing that you are loved and supported exactly as you are.
